AEE - Institute for Sustainable Technologies (AEE INTEC) is a non-university research institute and one of the leading institutes in the field of applied research on the three thematic focal points of thermal energy technologies and hybrid systems, building and renovation as well as industrial processes and energy systems.

In these areas the range covers everything from component and system development to the scientific support of demonstration systems. In addition, the institute advises and provides know-how within the framework of conferences and conferences.

AEE INTEC currently employs about 85 people from 14 different countries in Gleisdorf. The Institute also contributes to the training of highly qualified specialists with positions for dissertants and graduates, interns and student assistants.

Research and Development

Founded in 1988, AEE INTEC has been conducting applied research and development in national, European and international projects.

The three research departments “Thermal Energy Technologies and Hybrid Systems”, “Building and Retrofit” and “Industrial Processes and Energy Systems” cover the whole span from development of components to comprehensive integrated systems. This approach also allows for synergy effects between the three areas of research.

Another important activity of AEE INTEC is consulting political decision-makers on questions regarding energy and resources on the national and international level as as well as consulting engineering offices, architects, housing cooperatives and communities with the implementation of specific projects. For this projects studies are conducted to serve as decision support, analyzing the technical and financial feasibility.

Since 2006 AEE INTEC has been sitting on the board of the European Technology and Innovation Platform for Renewable Heating and Cooling (ETIP RHC) and has delivered crucial contributions to the European Strategic Research Agenda (SRA), the implementation roadmap for heating and cooling with technologies deploying renewable energy sources as well as the „SET Plan Integrated Roadmap”.

In order to allow for efficient and quick dissemination of the results of research and development projects as well as application experiences, various knowledge transfer projects on the national, European and global level have been implemented.

Furthermore, AEE INTEC has organized excursions, seminars, meetings and symposia in all three areas of research.

Another important activity is the publication of the magazine “Nachhaltige Technologien” with 6000 copies four times per year. Each edition covers the research focus of AEE INTEC in detail and provides a comprehensive overview of the current status of applications, operational experiences and new developments.
