The IEA Task 4 \u201cClimate Neutral Districts\u201d addresses the increasing urgency to decarbonize urban areas, with a specific focus on the district level. This scale represents a critical interface between buildings and city-wide systems, enabling integrated solutions in the fields of energy, mobility, and urban services. The project aims to develop practical, scientifically sound frameworks, methods, and tools that support cities in planning and implementing climate-neutral districts. <\/p>\n\n
To achieve this, existing instruments are systematically analyzed, evaluated, and further developed, while research gaps are identified and addressed with new approaches. The work is structured into four subtasks: <\/p>\n\n
Through close collaboration with cities, research institutions, energy agencies, and international networks, Task 4 establishes a robust knowledge base and practice-oriented tools that support the broad application and scaling of climate-neutral districts. Particularly innovative is the clear focus on cities and municipalities as the primary target group\u2014an unprecedented approach within the IEA that translates scientific expertise directly into local decision-making processes. <\/p>\n\n
