EnergyCityConcepts
The project EnergyCityConcepts rises to the challenge of decentralized energy infrastructures on the level of municipalities, small cities and city quarters to increase regional and national value added as well as the increase of supply guarantee. It is comprehensible that to reach ambitious climate targets, a combination between urban planning and energy planning (urban and regional energy planning) or rather in special the combination of different energy and municipality infrastructures in urban regions is increasingly important. The major challenges, as well on technical as on non-technical side, are to analyze future energy system combinations in a holistic approach and further on to obtain an transformation agreement between stakeholders in the field of urban and energy planning.
Based on two concrete model regions (small city “Gleisdorf” and urban city quarter “Salzburg-Schallmoos”) new methodical approaches will be developed which enables developments of holistic and sustainable energy systems in the urban field. Both model regions combine ambitious political commitments to a 100% renewable or rather CO2-neutral energy supply. Both cities are due to previous activities and visionary perspectives of responsible players leading in the Austrian Smart Cities development.
Technical research questions in the current project affect the territorial fixed urban analysis of energy savings and energy resource potentials within the balance limits of both model regions as base of development and optimization of integrated energy systems. Non-technical research questions in the current project affect the development of new approaches of organizational, terminal and methodical links of city planning (urban and regional planning) and energy planning as well as the implementation in both model regions. The main tasks are the strategy of a mutual comprehension in a common language, a harmonized methodical approach and particularly a common vision.
