Digitalization & simulation

Digitization is leading to massive changes in many aspects of the energy world. This transformation affects both technical issues of energy systems and business models and also shapes methods of scientific work. As an application-oriented research institute, AEE INTEC combines profound technical domain knowledge for energy systems with a strong competence in data. The cross-sectional area “Digitization and Simulation” bundles the activities and scientific methods across all working areas of AEE INTEC.

The complexity of current research topics on the technology and system level requires the application of advanced methods as well as interdisciplinary approaches in modelling and simulation. AEE INTEC can draw on a large pool of simulation methods and models, with building and energy supply simulation being mentioned as examples. Furthermore, the “digital twin” method is applied to buildings, networks, industry and production processes. Data analyses and data-driven optimization of energy systems are further focal points of the work.
