IEA IETS Task 19 deals with the electrification of industry by converting processes that were previously powered by fossil fuels. Electrification can lead to a significant reduction in greenhouse gas emissions if electricity from renewable energies is used. Research and industry are primarily concerned with grid-friendly electrification in order to consider and evaluate electricity generation, distribution and use holistically.
The international consortium is led by TNO from the Netherlands. The Austrian delegation is led by the Energy Institute of Johannes Kepler University Linz (E-JKU). Other project partners include the AIT (Austrian Institute of Technology) and AEE INTEC (AEE Institute for Renewable Technologies).
The three partners have extensive research knowledge and contribute experience from implementation projects in industrial electrification using electrolysers, CCU/S, heat pumps and direct heating systems.
The aim is to facilitate ongoing exchange with international partners and the systematic sharing of knowledge on the electrification and transformation of industrial energy systems.
Austria’s participation in the task will ensure the visibility of Austrian progress and enable the country to gain insights from other countries.
