In the frame of the European project DESIRED, a technology for the solar conversion of CO2 and water to green gases is being developed on a pilot scale. The project was started in November 2022.
Currently, significant improvements in photocatalysts and reactor technology are necessary to make solar fuel production technically feasible, scalable, affordable, safe, sustainable and efficient. Experts in the fields of photocatalysis and photoelectrochemistry work together in order to reach a milestone within the next four years with the development of a solar reactor at AEE INTEC. The goal is to develop solar fuels for sectors where switching to hydrogen or electricity is not technically feasible or cost-efficient, for example in the aviation sector.
