This Task aims to advance digitalization, AI, and related technologies to improve economic and environmental performance in energy- and GHG-intensive process industries. It will build an international network of academia, research labs, IT providers, and industry stakeholders to enhance data availability, align capabilities, and support informed decision-making. The goal is to drive adoption of digital technologies for energy efficiency and emissions reduction through knowledge exchange, joint expertise development, and accelerated deployment.

Building on Subtasks 2 (“Methods and Applications of Digital Twins”) and 3 (“Lessons Learned and Created Values by Digitalization”), Subtask 4 (“AI Methods in Industrial Energy Systems”) will focus on:

  • enhancing international collaboration on AI in industrial energy systems,
  • creating an IEA platform for sharing R&D experiences and findings in the proposed activity areas,
  • improving knowledge on combining AI methods and energy efficiency to decarbonize industry,
  • raising awareness of implications of applying AI in future industrial energy systems,
  • continuing work on digitalization and AI to support industrial decarbonization,
  • strengthening understanding of how future innovations may influence AI-related project performance.

AEE INTEC will lead Activity 5, “Technology Roadmap for Further Development of AI Approaches,” aiming to develop a comprehensive roadmap for the strategic advancement and implementation of AI to decarbonize the industrial sector.
