IETS Annex 15 – Combination of Methods and Operational Aspects for Industrial Excess Heat-Available Resources, Risk Minimization and Consequences of Future Changes in the Energy System
The cost-efficient use of industrial waste heat is an essential goal both in the targets of the European Union and in the national implementation plan of the climate and energy strategy #mission2030 as a key objective for achieving the climate targets.
The primary objective of the participation in Annex 15 lies on the integration of Austrian research institutions into the international network and the participation in a platform for information exchange as well as the initiation of international projects in the field of waste heat recovery in industrial processes.
The project focuses on the optimization and (further) development of energy- and cost-efficient technologies for industrial application under consideration of industrial framework conditions. Participation in the IEA-IETS allows Austrian stakeholders to establish cooperation on an international level and to offer R&D services in the field of industrial energy-relevant technologies and systems. It also provides access to valuable know-how that is adapted to Austrian stakeholders and disseminated in a targeted manner. The presentation of Austrian know-how will also increase its visibility in the international R&D environment.
In the international consortium, national knowledge on the following topics is collected and processed:
- Combination of methods for identification and quantification of excess heat
- Consequences for excess heat of industrial systems with regard to future changes in industrial energy systems
- Operational aspects, e.g. monitoring, control, supervision etc.
- Risk minimization for projects in connection with excess heat
- Presentation of innovative surplus heat projects
AEE INTEC is responsible for the further development of the standardized collection of industrial waste heat projects (qualitative and quantitative), the consolidation of the process database created in Annex 15/Task 2 for exergetically and cost-optimized waste heat integration as well as the derivation of specific benchmarks and further development of process integration tools.
