InSite – Monitoring and evaluation of innovative demonstration buildings

In the “Stadt der Zukunft” and “Smart City Initiative” programmes, a large number of demonstration projects have been implemented and scientifically monitored in past years. However, the actual market introduction of the respective developments and the transfer of the knowledge gained to future implementers is difficult for several reasons. On the one hand, the evaluation, presentation and derivation of findings is currently the responsibility of the respective project consortia and is therefore not homogeneous. At the same time, the individual consortia lack the possibility to meaningfully compare their demonstration projects with other projects. A selection of promising systems for defined use cases is not possible this way.
The aim of the present project InSite is to meet this challenge and to accelerate the market introduction of the respective innovations through a comprehensible, uniform data collection, evaluation and assessment. To this end, 10 selected demonstration projects will be used in this project to develop prototypical solutions for the problem areas listed above. The 10 objects selected together with the awarding authority will be subjected to scientific monitoring and socio-scientific surveys over a period of 24 months in order to evaluate them in a comparable manner with regard to their energetic, ecological and economic performance as well as their user comfort, flexibility potential and smart readiness indicator. Expected results are the uniformity of the collected data, a comprehensible data preparation and comparison of the innovations using up-to-date KPIs as well as targeted dissemination via a publishable study, two result workshops, the involvement of the LOI partners and the publicly accessible, web-based InSite platform.
