INXS – Industrial Excess Heat

The energy transition is viewed with a focus on electricity, but due to the high level of industrialisation in Austria, industrial waste heat is a priority for achieving the climate goals in terms of energy and exergy. However, as these have not yet been fully surveyed and the framework conditions have not been sufficiently researched, there are obstacles to the implementation of industrial waste heat utilisation. Therefore, INXS intends to provide the necessary database with a corresponding level of detail. The existing potentials will be collected, classified and geo-referenced using bottom-up and top-down methods. For external use of waste heat, business models and recommendations for political support instruments will be derived. For time varying waste heat potentials, technology and system options will be researched that offer further flexibility.
