LösungsWege – Mobility 2023: Regional Mobility Labs & Digitalization for Mobility and Logistics Services

In Styria, over 68% of trips were made using motorized individual transport (MIT) during the period of 2013/2014. This is particularly challenging in rural areas like Eastern Styria, where navigating the first and last mile without MIT proves to be very difficult. There is a lack of inter-municipal cooperation as well as interconnected on-demand services such as micro-public transport, car-sharing, and e-charging stations to reduce dependency on MIT. Furthermore, comprehensive and valid data on personal mobility is lacking.
LösungsWege brings all relevant stakeholders together and promotes capacity building among various interest groups. The aim is to integrate new on-demand services into a systemic overall approach in the long term:
- Information gaps regarding on-demand services are addressed with the help of geoinformation tools (GIS), as well as qualitative, survey-based research, focusing on user-centered and needs-based solutions.
- A transferable methodology for bottom-up calculations of modal split and passenger kilometers will be developed to establish a database for Styria.
- This database will facilitate the creation of a bottom-up greenhouse gas inventory for personal mobility in Eastern Styria.
- Supplemented by a comprehensive survey of existing regional on-demand services, a Mobility as a Service (MaaS) & One Stop Shop (OSS) web app will be prototypically implemented as a cross-platform booking platform and anchored in the long term.
In addition, a joint strategy and a business model for the continuation of the project are being developed. Thanks to the support of a broad network, this project should serve as a best-practice solution for other regions in Austria.
