sBSc – scaled BIG SOLAR control
Development of optimized control strategies for large-scale solar thermal plants with absorption heat pumps and seasonal pit storage
The goal of the project “sBSc – scaled BIG SOLAR control” is the development of optimized control strategies and related software for a cost-efficient operation of large-scale solar thermal plant with an absorption heat pump and seasonal pit storage for urban district heating support.
CRAVEzero – Cost Reduction and market Acceleration for Viable nearly zero-Energy buildings
Effective processes, robust solutions, new business models and reliable life cycle costs, supporting user engagement and investors’ confidence towards net zero balance.
Cost optimal and nearly zero energy performance levels are principles initiated by the European Union’s (EU) Energy Performance of Buildings Directive, which was recast in 2010. These will be major drivers in the construction sector in the next few years, because all new buildings in the EU from 2021 onwards are expected to be nearly zero energy buildings (nZEB).
While nZEB realized so far have clearly shown that the nearly-zero energy target can be achieved using existing technologies and practices, most experts agree that a broad-scale shift towards nearly-zero energy buildings requires significant adjustments to prevailing building market structures. Cost-effective integration of efficient solution sets and renewable energy systems in a form that fits with the development, manufacturing and construction industry
Oscyme – Enhancement of enzymatic hydrolysis by a new reactor-design as milestone for value added processing of ligno-cellulosic residues
A novel reactor design is elaborated in terms of the optimization of the enzymatic hydrolysis of ligno-cellulosic material. The objective is to reduce energy costs as well as the amount of enzymes needed in order to reuse waste products as resources for bio –ethanol or chemical production in an economic way.
T2LowEx – Transformation of conventional heating grids towards low temperature heating grids by heat customer related optimisation measures
The significant reduction of the temperature level of district heating networks is an important step towards future proof district heating systems. Within T2LowEx systematic methods for the analyses of heat consumers and heating networks and business models aiming to foster the realisation of optiomisation measures at the customer side, are developed.
ÖKO-OPT-QUART – Ökonomisch optimiertes Regelungs- und Betriebsverhalten komplexer Energieverbünde zukünftiger Stadtquartiere
A comprehensive simulation study of complex energy networks in future city districts with the aim of achieving an economically optimized controller and operating behavior. The results are to be generalized to a wide range of configurations and provide a foundation for decision makers in the selection of the energy configuration in new districts.
IEA-IETS Annex 15: Industrial Excess heat Recover (Phase 2)
The IEA IETS Annex 15/2 deals with the optimization and further development of energy and cost effective technologies for using industrial waste heat under given circumstances. The integrated use of industrial waste heat and the optimization of energy efficiency are addressed in a multi-disciplinary approach. In Annex 15/2, contributions from national research projects are collected and reprocessed and brought into an international know-how transfer. Newly acquired knowledge will be disseminated at national level and integrated into on-going research
Digital building models for sustainable buildings
The objective of the project is to integrate instruments, software tools and services into the building information modelling (BIM), in order to optimize sustainability aspects directly in the BIM-based planning process.
ParaSol – Hydraulic Design of collector modules in Large Solar Thermal Plants
In the project “ParaSol”, a mathematical-physical calculation tool for hydraulic calculations for large solar thermal systems has been developed, followed by extensive experimental validation. For the first time, pressure drop measurements of T pieces were carried out under boundary conditions that are relevant for solar thermal energy. A set of “characteristic key figures” enables quick economic and technical evaluation of different hydraulic concepts for solar collector arrays. Based on the project results, ParaSol is a significant contribution to understanding hydraulic, thermal and economic questions in large solar thermal systems.
IEA EBC Annex 70 – Building Energy Epidemiology – Analysis of real building energy use at scale
In the IEA EBC Annex 70 project reasons for differences between calculated and measured energy consumption of buildings will be analysed. Requirements regarding the data quality, characteristics and security will be elaborated. Recommendations regarding the utilisation of international standards and methods of data collection, processing and evaluation will be developed. The results will address policy makers, technology developer, building owners and energy service companies.
E.Vent – Efficient, affordable and maintenance-friendly centralized mechanical ventilation systems for multifamily buildings – planning, operation and fire protection
Based on practical experience from realized mechanical ventilation systems as well as results from previous projects new tasks for improvement have been identified in the fields of planning, balance-tuning of the air volume and fire protection. The project aims at offering innovative technical solutions and planning tools for the installation of new, but also low-maintenance operation of existing systems.
