Urban district heating extended – Development of flexible and decarbonized urban district heating systems

Development of innovative urban district heating systems by integration of long-term thermal storage, large scale heat pumps, large scale solar thermal installations, waste heat recovery and analysis and evaluation by simulation. The results of this project will provide templates for technology selection, system design and merit order for new urban district heating areas.

REsys – Smart control strategies to improve the energy efficiency of complex hybrid energy systems

A realised hybrid energy system is modeled by the combination of both thermal and electrical simulations and the model is validated with measured data. Optimized control algorithms are to be developed and tested on the real system.

Energiestrategie ASFINAG

Development of a strategy to deploy renewable energy in consideration of energy efficiency at ASFINAG.

AEE INTEC and REENAG consulted ASFINAG (the Austrian motorway operator) in their aim of identifying the potential for renewable energy with their own resources and areas.

The identified potentials were evaluated on profitability, feasibility and possible ways of implementation and financing. Further steps were presented and discussed.

AR-HES-B – Energy storage, production and recovery of valuable substances in waste water treatment plants

The urban sewage treatment nowadays is a classical end-of-the pipe system. The conventional municipal biological-aerobic wastewater treatment is an energy intensive process. Vast amounts of potential energy (bound in carbon) and valuable nutrients (e.g. nitrogen) are destroyed in the energy intensive aerobic aeration. The wastewater treatment plants (WWTP) are the major energy consumer in Austria communes. Prospective, the consumed energy in urban agglomerations will still be produced only to a little extend within the city boundaries. Besides the fluctuating energy quotation due to volatile, renewable energy resources (e.g. infrequently resp. periodically available wind power and above all solar power/ photovoltaic) the decentralised, fluctuating part in the public power grid rises.

IEA EBC Annex 67 „Energy Flexible Buildings“

The adaptation of the energy consumption of buildings and building clusters to the energy generation from renewable energy sources is vital for the future energy system. The main target of the Annex 67 is to investigate and characterize this future role of the “energy-flexibility” of buildings, to capture potentials and to offer control strategies.

Development of a discussion paper

Development of a discussion paper for the food industry which serves as basis for the R&D roadmap “energy efficiency in the textile and food industry”.

The development of a branch specific discussion paper for the food industry which examines the R&D demand for increasing the energy efficiency in the production.

TrustEE – innovative market based Trust for Energy Efficiency investments in industry

TrustEE aims at ensuring financing to SMEs technology suppliers implementing energy services for the producing industry, bypassing the restrictive “credit worthiness” criteria imposed by conventional financing parties.

TrustEE – innovative market based Trust for Energy Efficiency investments in industry

TrustEE is a three-year project (2016-2019) financed by the European Commission Horizon 2020 Programme to accelerate implementation of energy efficiency (EE) and renewable energy (RE) solutions. This project aligns with and supports the EU energy efficiency, renewable energy and climate goals for 2020 focussing on producing industry facing a lack of funding and financing possibilities for EE and RE projects.

SolarAutomotive – Solar process heat for automotive and supplying industry

Solar Automotive has the aim to establish solar process heat in the automotive and supplier industry.

In addition to target group analyzes and potential analyzes a planning tool and simulation tool as well as general integration concepts will be developed and the cooperation between the solar thermal and the automotive and supplier industry will strengthen.

UNIDO Ship Biomass

Training for Industrial Applications in Ukraine and India focusing on improving energy efficiency and promoting renewable energy in the agro-food and other small and medium enterprises (SMEs)

The aim of the project is to develop a market environment for introducing energy efficiency and enhanced use of renewable energy technologies in the agro-food and other energy intensive manufacturing SMEs in Ukraine and India as a basis for promoting their competitiveness while ensuring an integrated approach for lower carbon intensity and improvement in their productivity and local environment. The training also includes a study tours.
