Cities and municipalities play a crucial role at the local level in promoting sustainability and climate protection. The municipality of Gratwein-Straßengel takes this societal responsibility seriously and is actively shaping its future. With the “Klima-Schule-Leben” exploration, the first step is being taken to sustainably modernize the primary school and the entire area, while simultaneously making it a pioneering model project for the region.

The exploration focuses on nine specific goals aimed at ensuring the sustainable transformation of the education campus. These include identifying the interests of users, securing acceptance of the proposed solutions, and applying new structures and processes within the municipality. Additionally, innovative components for the climate neutrality of buildings and districts are being identified, and future frameworks such as the EU Green Deal as well as national and regional funding opportunities are being considered, with active involvement of AEE INTEC. Another focus is the development of financing options and preparation for the next planning steps.

The exploration aims not only to prepare for the modernization of the primary school and the further development of the education campus but also to position the municipality as a role model for climate-neutral urban development in the region. Thus, the exploration lays the foundation for a climate-friendly future that will have an impact far beyond the education campus.
