IEA EBC Annex 56 – Cost Effective Energy and Carbon Emission Optimization in Building Renovation

The Annex aims at developing a new methodology to enable cost effective renovations of existing buildings while optimizing energy consumption and carbon emissions reduction. The main objective is to support decision makers and multipliers by the evaluation of the energy efficiency, cost effectiveness and acceptance (by users, owners and decision makers) of renovation measures towards both the nearly-zero emission and the nearly-zero energy objectives.

Smart ABC

The EPBD recast 2010 targets „nearly zero energy buildings“. This low amount of energy is to be covered by energy from renewable energy sources. The project “Smart ABC” analyses a variety of relevant solution sets regarding the building performance and the renewable based energy supply options. Energetic and ecological impacts will be analyzed in order to optimize the integration of renewable energy technologies in building standards and to find answers how to depict a building cluster regarding standards and tools.

Green Brewery – Zero fossil CO2 emissions for breweries

Within the project Green brewery the emissions of fossil and climate-relevant CO2 from the production of beer could be significantly reduced and even set to Zero, by development and implementation of a methodological optimisation approach.

+ERS - Plus Energy Network Reininghaus Süd

The multifunctional neighbourhood “+ERS - Plus Energy Network Reininghaus Süd” is realized within the urban planning area of Graz-Reininghaus. The project aims to optimize the energy concept of the single buildings as well as of the building cluster in order to achieve a plus-energy standard within the residential neighbourhood.

PROMISE DEMO IF

Production with solar thermal energy fort he company Assmann Ladenbau GmbH

The project PROMISE DEMO – IF cover the realization of a large scale solar thermal system for the company Assmann Ladenbau GmbH, the control of the stagnation behaviour of large solar thermal systems, the selection and implementation of high-temperature heat pumps for industrial applications and the monitoring of these implemented systems.

Solar thermal sector concept for the food industry - Solar Foods

Concept for implementation of a "Solar Industry Approach" in the food industry, based on an energetic and economic analysis of representative plants taking into account the integration of solar thermal energy as well as the use of other renewable energy sources and other efficiency measures. The industry approach includes a planning tool, a guideline and the conclusions of the project within a solar-roadmap for the food industry.

SOCO

SOCO (Storage Optimisation Concepts) develops a planning tool for optimisation and design of storage systems in complex thermal energy systems. On the basis of real life process data coming from the industries, commerce and district heating businesses, this tool will be able to plan and design complex storage systems that will enhance possibilities of demand reduction (heat integration) and will provide an ideal basis for the integration of renewable energy supply systems.

Solar and Heat Pump Systems

Systems for space heating and domestic hot water preparation based on the combination of solar collectors and heat pumps are currently more and more in demand and are already provided by several manufacturers. However, the integration of a heat pump into a solar system is more complex than with other auxiliary systems, as also the heat source of the heat pump (evaporator cycle) can be connected to the whole system. Additionally to the standard heat sources ambient air and ground heat, the solar collectors or the buffer storage tank can also be used as a source with different possibilities of hydraulic integrations.

High efficient combination of solar thermal and heat pump systems

System concepts using a combination of solar thermal combisystems and heat pumps for a currently rapidly growing market are documented and analysed theoretically. Different systems are evaluated by means of measurements in a field test and compared to each other and to reference systems by means of dynamic system simulations. At the end of the project advanced and adapted system solutions will be available.

Using the Heating Recovery Potential and Solar Thermal Energy for 100 % Solar Buildings

In Low-Energy Buildings and Passive Houses the energy demand for hot water often exceeds the demand for heating energy. Therefore the development of concepts for hot water production is essential in such houses. The concepts have to consider all phases beginning with production of hot water, storage, distribution and waste-water- heat-recovery.
